Kadar Kompaun Parkir Dinaikkan Sehingga RM 100 Di Pulau Pinang

Tanpa disedari, bermula 1 Ogos lalu kerajaan negeri Pulau Pinang melalui Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan di bawahnya telah melaksanakan kenaikan kadar kompaun parking.

Ikuti laporan The Sun Daily;

GEORGE TOWN: Starting Aug 1, the Penang Island City Council will increase the fines for parking offences involving handicapped spaces, pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes.
City Council councillor Joseph Ng said cars caught parking wantonly in such areas faced a RM100 hit in the pocket, an increase from the previous RM30.
The Council Financial Management Committee alternate chairman said motorcyclists face a RM20 fine for such violations, an increase from the previous RM15.
He said the decision was taken after receiving numerous complaints on errant drivers parking at these parking bays.
Joseph said he himself has received complaints from genuine physically disabled persons regarding handicapped parking places being used by able bodied people.
"There is no point in having pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes if they cannot be used as people parked on them," he said in a press conference after the Council meeting today.
During the meeting earlier, Councillor Lim Boon Beng voiced his objection to the increase and urged the move to be reconsidered.
Mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail said the objection would be noted in the meeting minutes and said the Council also noted the decision of the majority.
In a separate press conference, an underpass linking Jalan Mount Erskine to Jalan Burma is in the works according to Council Infrastructure and Traffic Committee alternate chairman Muhamad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.
He said a consultant has been appointed to draw up the design and while work on the estimated RM30 million project is expected to begin early 2016.
He said the 200m underpass is expected to relieve traffic congestion along the two roads as well as Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Bagan Jermal.
"The underpass is expected to alleviate congestion by about 30%," he said adding peak hour traffic at those areas was recorded at some 3,300 vehicles per hour.
